Whats new in Verbier 2014/15

Dre Israel - Saturday, September 13, 2014

So what’s new for the winter ski season 2014-15 in Verbier.

New ski run on Savoleyres from La Marmotte (Les Planards) down to Les Esserts. Televerbier have been hard at work getting the new piste ready.

The first on mountain ski shop from the guys at Ski Service. Full details have not been released, but ski rentals, ski storage, ski service, ski test etc.

We have new owners of the Les
Ruinettes restaurant. Marcus the CEO of Nevai and Cordée des Alpes has taken over the Les Ruinettes restaurant. The restaurant is currently being ripped out (removing the 70’s look). Live music, Live DJ’s for the first time live Apres Ski on the mountains in Verbier.

New owners of the
Hotel Farinet – The legendary Verbier Farinet hotel has been sold, and is being renovated ready for this winter. The new owner is Lawrence Jones the owner of UKFAST.

Nomad is moving location – As the Hotel Farinet has new owners JC and his team have moved out of the Farinet. New location is TBC.

Verbier has no new ski lifts for the 2014-2015 season.

The Napoli has closed and won’t be opening this winter.

Finally the Hotel Montpellier is being renovated, and also has a new owner. Yes Marcus from the Nevai and Cordée des Alpes and Les Ruinettes has taken over the Hotel Montpellier and will be opening it as a 3* hotel this winter.

4 Vallees saved

Dre Israel - Monday, September 08, 2014

It really happened. What everyone quietly expected and definitely had also hoped for happened: Les Quatre Vallées continues to be one ski area. And not just for the coming season. No, all uncertainty is gone now by continuing the cooperation for the next 18 years.

One ski area
That means no Verbier Grand Ski or Espace Mont Fort or any of the other new areas that would arise. It's great news for everybody working in tourism in Verbier, Nendaz and Veysonnaz and the other villages, because a connected Les Quatre Vallées is obviously better than just individual parts.

A bit late
Too bad that it had to come so far, because I expect some damage this winter in terms of less bookings and things like that. There are tour operators who have not displayed the area in their brochures and also the bookings at ski schools are still lagging a bit, as we heard from locals. But hey, there's still plenty of time to book a trip to the area before winter really kicks in. Anyway, for the long term, it is settled and we can continue to enjoy all the beautiful lines in Les Quatre Vallées.

Welcome back winter

Dre Israel - Sunday, October 13, 2013

Welcome back snow.  We've now had 3 consecutive days of light snowfall but enough to lay the first layer on the ground.  Today and until the 27th of October lifts to Les Ruinettes are open from 9am - 12:20pm and from 1:30pm - 4:30pm (closed on bad weather days).  For those early risers with the annual pass, enjoy!  Lifts to Les Attelas are to open in less then 3 weeks now on the 2nd of November.  For those keen to go a little higher then Les Ruinettes today, touring is the only option to experience some of the deeper snow.  Do watch out though on the lower sections as there is not much of a base so best to stick to the grassy fields.  For those that are around town today, have a great day!  For everyone else, hope to see soon for yet another great start to a season. Pics below from today October 13th 2013.

Summer Skiing on the Mt. Fort Glacier, Verbier

Dre Israel - Wednesday, July 10, 2013

The Swiss ski resort of Verbier has announced that it will be opening this weekend for skiing & snowboarding following the exceptional snowfall last winter. Although summer has finally arrived in the alps, at altitude there are still large quantities of snow.

The abundance of snow and a good weekend forecast has led the resort to open the Mont Fort area, giving a vertical descent of 400m.

The Verbier glacier used to open up for summer skiing back in the 1980s, however the retreating glacier meant that this came to an end and there has been no summer skiing for the last 25 years.

The lifts will be open in the morning only, on 13th & 14th July, and a lift pass will cost 20 Swiss Francs. Lifts from Le Châble, Verbier and Siviez (Nendaz) are scheduled to open at 08.00 with the lifts at Mont Fort open from about 10.00 to 13.00.
